Topic 9: Unlocking the Next Phase of Local Content through Robust Oil and Gas Research and Development

A decade of proactive efforts to advance local content in the oil and gas industry has seen significant increase in employment of Ghanaians in petroleum operations, job role localisaiton, in-country investment, equity participation of Ghanaian businesses and the value of contracts awarded to Ghanaian Indigenous Companies. However, recent challenges, including decreased investments, declining oil production, higher production costs, and methane gas emissions, have hindered the development of local content and participation in the industry.

This session focuses on how the industry can develop an innovative framework to unlock the next phase of local content through R&D and academia-industry collaboration.
